Apples are a staple of elementary school. Apple poetry, apple art, and apple graphs have been in my classroom forever. One year, I tried to switch it up and do a grape unit that would hit all of the standards that I introduce with my apple unit. I ended up struggling: finding books about grapes, creating grape activities, etc. After several weeks, I decided it wasn't the fruit that needed to be changed, it was my approach. Each year I add a few new apple books to my shelf and create new activities to keep things fresh. The great thing about my Let's Find Out subscription is that it not only comes with my students' magazines, but also includes a teacher pack with different activities that support the magazine content. The teacher plans for September featured a simple, fun apple activity. It required very few materials and my kids absolutely loved it. Before the activity begins, cut the apples into pieces. There should be one piece for each student. Some of my students found it difficult to get the toothpick through the card stock so be prepared to travel around the room and assist as needed. Pro Tip: I had a sample completed before I gave the supplies to the students. This was to scaffold the instruction so that I could see who responded to verbal and who needed a visual. Pro Tip: When cutting the apple before you begingo a little larger with your apple pieces. Smaller pieces turn to flip over from the weight of the toothpick and card stock. This confused several students who thought this meant that their apple boat had sunk, when it actually did float! Brian Karas. I always love to get out my copy of How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin? Now I have another wonderful adventure with Mr. Tiffin to bring to the front of the class, which is where this book belongs.

Everything was prebooked and prearranged which made our trip flow seamlessly. All the vouchers and plans were given to us upon arrival in a lovely book as well as other helpful information about the country. The itinerary that was set up for us was wonderful- the sights were breathtaking. For those wanting to tour Iceland but not get on a single bus to do so- this is it!!. The Winter Activity Week was an excellent introduction to Iceland. It was very well organised but with plenty of time to relax. The accommodation was of a high standard and the staff at all three hotels were pleasant and helpful. The super jeep tours were amazing and the guides were very informative. We learned much about the beautiful landscapes but also the culture and attitudes of the Icelandic people. We have fallen in love with the country and its people, who have a wonderful sense of humour and are very proud. We also like Icelandic beer (visit the Micro Bar in Reykjavik) and food (Tapas Barinn also in Reykjavik) and can therefore say with some certainty that we will be returning one day. Booked a trip to Iceland with Larus at Nordic Visitor. I originally felt blind doing this as I did not know much about the hotels and sites but I soon did not feel alone. Larus responded quickly to my every question and inquiry, plus the information Nordic Visitor normally provides made me a knowledgeable traveler. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and our vacation was a huge success. We wanted an Overview of Iceland in 11 days, "The Highlights" you might say. Using NV was the best thing we could have done, from being picked up at the Airport, transfers, Itinerary, to the Car Hire (Inc Mobile phone and GPS), and some of the most unusual and brilliant places to stay. Our Rep Erla Sonja was fantastic. We met her when dropping the phone off at the end of the trip. Would I recommend using them, A big YES. In fact we hope to go back in 2014, even with some Knowledge of the country now, NV are on speed dial before we do anything. One note of caution, you may already know, you think you are prepared, the cost of food, allow plenty in your budget.

The largest loss of firefighters in the last 20 years was about 36 in 1994. Hunt reported that the funds for the 2012-2013 fiscal year for fuel reduction treatments has been cut by about 20 percent. Other documents at the forum show that there are a total of 46 million homes that are in the potential line of fire in what is called the wildland-urban interface (WUI). The average number of structures lost in wildfires has increased rapidly since the 1990s. The years 2003, 2007 and 2011 had the most structures lost across the country at 5,781, 4,900, and 5,850 respectively. Along with the rise in fires and structures lost are the costs associated with fighting fires, in direct correlation. The rest of the forum was spent on Community Wildfire Protection Plans, funding for plans, WUI fire codes, the Firewise USA program, and the Ready, Set, Go program. All of these programs are efforts started by federal, state and local governments and local private communities to educate property owners on their responsibilities to make sure their property is fire safe. Most forest area fire departments and communities have one or more of the above programs and will help property owners assess their risks. That includes, in some cases, funding to help with thinning treatments. Insurance companies are also working with clients. Log InKeep it Clean.
